Home Energy Saver questions
What is the NSW Home Energy Saver loan?
It’s a NSW Government program that lends eligible households up to $15,000 at zero interest to install energy-saving upgrades — solar, batteries and more. No interest, no fees. You repay only what you borrow, over up to 10 years. The program is backed by a $557 million state fund and applications opened on 17 June 2026.
Does 0% interest really mean no extra cost? +
Yes. The loan is interest-free and fee-free — no upfront fee, no monthly fee, and no penalty for paying it off early. Borrow $15,000, repay $15,000. The NSW Government funds the program, so you are not charged interest.
Who is eligible?
Your home must be in NSW, you must own it (owner-occupiers and landlords both qualify), your combined household income must be no more than $210,000, and you must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. There’s one loan available per property.
How do I apply?
Applications go through the program’s two finance providers, Brighte and Plenti — not directly to a bank. As an accredited installer, Solid Solar Services prepares your application covering the system and price, then sends you a pre-filled link. You add your details (income and proof of ownership) and the provider assesses your eligibility and ability to repay. Approval is subject to their responsible-lending check.
What about the $4,000 discount?
A discount of up to $4,000 is due to open later in 2026, only for households with combined income under $80,000 or someone holding an eligible concession card (e.g. pensioner / Health Care Card). Most working families won’t qualify for the discount — but you’ll still get the full $15,000 at 0% interest.
Can I use the loan if I rent out the property?
Yes — landlords are eligible as long as they own the property and the tenant consents to the upgrade. The loan is in the property owner’s name.
Can I stack this with the federal battery rebate?
Yes, for most households. The Commonwealth Cheaper Home Batteries discount cuts the upfront cost of your battery, and the Home Energy Saver loan covers the balance at 0% — so your battery can cost very little out of pocket. We apply every incentive you qualify for in your quote.
What can I install with the loan?
Rooftop solar and home batteries are the most popular. The scheme also covers reverse-cycle air conditioning, heat-pump hot water, EV chargers, switchboard upgrades, insulation, ceiling fans and draught-proofing.
